About the Book

Title: John Bloom and the Garden of Victory | Author: Leigh Shearin | Publication Date: October 27, 2014 | Publisher: Independent | Pages: 195 | Recommended Ages: 9+

Book Summary: John Bloom and the Victory Garden is the rollicking tale of 3 boys at the dawn of America's involvement in WWII. John Bloom, and his best friends Joe and Chewie live, play, and get into adventures in 1940's era Appleside, NJ. Because children are generally joyful and tend to put more importance on the goings-on of their own worlds than those of grown-ups, the events of the war are woven into the boy's daily lives. Along the way, a bitter and cynical old man is drawn into their hijinks, and contributes his own joy to the lives of these 3. Chapter One invites the reader to join John and his friends in Appleside, NJ on the afternoon of December 6th, 1941. Through newspaper headlines and radio bulletins, the boys learn about the incredible events of the war- beginning with the attack on Hawaii by the Empire of Japan. As the story moves along, John and his friends learn that everyone- not just soldiers- can make a difference. They learn that commitment leads to ultimate success and that taking a seemingly insurmountable task one step at a time will make that task simple. John, Joe and Chewie learn about where their food comes from, and how important good food is to the Allies overseas. John Bloom and the Victory Garden is not just a story of Homefront USA during WWII. Its about faith, endurance and sturdy values that transcend time and cultural differences. It's about accepting tough times, struggle and adversity and overcoming them anyway. It's about seeing the humor in life, and helping others to see the humor too. But mostly, they just have a gut-busting great time!

Title: You and Everything After (Falling #2)
Author: Ginger Scott
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: December 5, 2014

Blurb:
I’m that teenaged girl who has MS. You haven’t met me, but you’ve seen me around. You probably know my sister. We’re twins, and she’s the pretty one. Maybe you’ve heard about my reputation, how much I like to hook up at parties—how easy it is to get me in bed, get what you want, and forget about me after.

Forget what you think you know. I’m leaving that girl behind.

College is all about new beginnings. So from now on—I’m just Cass. And the rest…it isn’t written yet. And no one else gets to write my story for me.

--------
“Tyson Preeter doesn’t do can’t.”

That’s exactly what I want people to think when they see me. I am strong, invincible, confident, intelligent—arrogant. I’m the man who always finds a way around, over and through—until there’s nothing left. Since losing my ability to walk six years ago, I’ve relearned life. I don’t need sympathy. I don’t want charity. And I don’t do love.

It’s better this way, saves my disappointments for me, and me alone, and it saves my strength for everything I want.

But Cass Owens is about to wreck everything. She’s about to steal all of my strength away from me, because she needs it more. She’s about to break all of my rules, and break down all of my walls. She’s about to own me…completely.

And I’m about to let her.

*This is book 2 in The Falling Series.

What would Kelly think…if I fell in love? With someone else?

If I fell in love with Cass?

(I love this scene for a few reasons. First, I love that it has this natural connection to the series – the sense of falling, the fear of it, especially when you think you’re built to operate one way through life and then suddenly things change. Second, I love to hear inside Ty’s head, to hear him fight against something that feels easy. And third, I think this scene gives you that little insight that Ty may be an arrogant asshead sometimes, but damn is he a gentleman with his heart.)

Scene 2:
I zip my bag and stand on the bench on the other side of the lockers, making enough noise to make the other girls nervous. They can see the top of my head as I walk along the bench. I jump from the seat with enough force to cause my shoes to slap the concrete hard, the sound echoing. By the time I round the corner to face them, my chest is full of swagger.

“Oh, hi, ladies. I didn’t know you were still here,” I say, my smile caught somewhere between the words fuck off and bitches. “Since you are, I thought I’d take this time to maybe clear a few things up.”
Their eyes are wide and their hands are limp at their sides—even the beautiful, confident one who started all this in the first place. This vision is priceless, and it makes the pulsating sick feeling in my stomach completely worth it.

(Can’t lie – this scene is inspired by those moments I’ve had, and know we’ve all had, where you overhear someone saying something not nice. You just wish you could rewind and stand up to them and say everything you say to yourself later when you’re hurt and pissed. Cass says it all - leaves it all out on the field in this scene. I actually clapped when she was done.)

Scene 3:
“I want to hold you to me…but I don’t know how.”

(I could pull more of this scene…but this quote really sums it all up. I love it because it’s Ty being vulnerable. It’s my second favorite moment of his.)

Scene 4:
“My god, Mr. Owens. Your daughter—when she’s running, pushing herself…when she’s in her sport, competing—she’s fearsome. I have never seen anything or anyone like her. And I love her. I haven’t even told her yet, but I do. I love her for everything she is, and I love her for how much she makes me believe in the possible. She’s defiance, in all of its glory. And I don’t really care that it isn’t my place to tell you this, but if you’re too focused on taking the easy route to stop, just for a second, and watch her…and see her as she is? I’m not so sure you deserve to be the one she runs to in the first place.”

(This would be my favorite Ty moment. I have a passion for sports, for athletes –it’s why I gravitate to them in my characters so often. There’s a drive that happens, and when someone is a competitor like Cass and Ty, it’s almost like watching a warrior. I really wanted Ty’s admiration for Cass, the warrior, to come through here. She’s not just a pretty girl to him. She’s a fighter.)

"This early chapter book is perfect for children ages six through ten. It does not portray wimpy princesses, but strong, respectful and independent female role models involved in many adventures in which they learn to overcome their weaknesses, act against bullying, and cooperate with friends and family to promote human welfare and peace. Short chapters interspersed with illustrations will maintain interest if the book is read aloud for younger children. Introduce your little princess to this one." ~ 5 Star Review, Barbara M., Amazon

About the Author: PJ LaRue

PJ LaRuePJ LaRue wrote poetry in high school, but she discovered writing children’s books and short stories later in life. Her writing inspirations are hiking, photography and environmental consciousness, but she links these interests to much larger social issues. A person very close to PJ was molested as a child, making PJ passionate about providing child safety tips. And, PJ was bullied in the third grade by girls much larger than she, who demanded that PJ give them her lunch money. As a result, PJ is committed to spreading the word that bullying must be stopped.

One of PJ’s goals is to help educate children, parents and caregivers, in a fun way, using her children’s book series, The Mystic Princesses. Because PJ loves to travel, the princesses will visit many locales, learning about environmental concerns along the way.

Blurb:
Selene Michaels is determined to never let anyone make her feel inferior again. After a painful divorce, she finds herself in Paris on a working holiday, hopeful that this will be the opportunity she has been waiting for. She intends to have fun and maybe find a Prince Charming to flirt with; someone who will show her a good time, treat her right, and awaken her to all she has been missing. What she does not expect to find is Remington St. Germain and his adorable son, Adrien. Remington is intense, devastatingly hot and a Prince Charming on the outside, but a dirty talking, insatiable devil behind closed doors—the opposite of the man she has been hoping for—and not the type to give up on something that he wants. Selene soon realizes that life with Remington is not only interesting, but adventurous. It’s dangerous, and she’s about to find out how dangerous. . . if she is brave enough to take a chance.

EXCERPT

"Cotton candy is the answer to every single problem." I took it from the man's hand, and once I paid for my purchase, I pinched a small piece, and shoved it in my mouth. Remington's eyes followed my fingers, as the candy disappeared into my mouth.

He dragged his gaze away from my lips, and laughed. "For world problems, too?"

"Especially world problems. If anyone ever took time to listen to me, the world would be a better place." I grinned, pinching a wad of candy and holding it out for him. "Want some?"

Before I could move my hand, his mouth, warm and wet, closed around my fingers. He twirled his tongue around them, his eyes dark and playful.

Oh. My. God. "Good?" I asked hoarsely when he finally freed my fingers from their delicious prison.

"Perfect." He licked his lips while staring at mine, his face much closer than before. I could see every single golden speckle in his eyes.

My head angled automatically as his did. Were we about to kiss? Wasn't it too soon for this? Oh my God. Why was I questioning everything? Right now, a hot guy looked like he wanted to devour me alive and I was thinking?

He pulled back slightly, studying me, and I kicked myself mentally. My eyes shifted to his jaw, trying to scoop up my thoughts, now splattered at his feet. I'd been so absorbed by him I hardly noticed what was hidden behind that sexy scruff.

"Is that… a dimple?" My finger was suddenly all over the dimple. I found myself doing things without a second thought when I was around Remington. Before I could pull my hand back, he snatched it, bringing it to his mouth.

Again.

"If one little dimple drives you insane, wait until you see the second one." He turned his head.

God, I think I just came.

He swirled his tongue around my finger, nipping the tip gently. I groaned, struggling to pull my hand away before I embarrassed myself in front of the people littering the shop.

My heart was racing, and I was out of breath. All he did was show me his dimples and suck my finger.

Oh, shit, I am so in trouble.

"You're a dangerous man, Remington St. Germain."

He laughed, and everything seemed right in the world again. "Is that a bad thing?"

"No," I said, thinking how wonderful it'd be to live dangerously for once. Not care what anyone would think. "It's a very good thing."
